Project Data
End-User: RPF Industries.
Installer: American Energy Technology
Location: Park Plaza 75 Main St, Milburn, NJ
Date of install: July 2006 – Dec 2006
Size of system in kW: 63kW
Energy produced since installation
Special Challenges Met: 1) Deadline for sunset of the NJ rebate. 2) Fault with the utility supply of electricity to the building.
Project Brief
Park Plaza is an office building owned by Abe Silverstein Assoc. Turtle Energy designed a Photovoltaic system to be installed at Park Plaza.
Turtle Energy undertook a detailed analysis of the site. This analysis was comprised of the following steps and implementation.
Shading Analysis
Optimal System Design and Concept Planning
Industrial Design of the Components of the System
Multi-Disciplinary Coordination with Architects, Structural Engineers, Electrical Engineers, and Construction Managers (Stellar Energy Solutions)
Turtle Energy engaged Harrison Hamnett, PC to verify compatibility of the roofing structure with the proposed Photovoltaic system. American Energy Technology managed the project and communicated with the client. 2006 was a busy year for AET and a drawback was that the client for Park Plaza was concerned that his project was being delayed and was concerned that his NJ rebate would time out.
The project commenced in July of 2006 and was successfully completed in Dec of 2006. The size of the PV system for Park Plaza is 63kW. The Electrical Contractor of record was Forest Electric.
The project uncovered a utility phasing fault in the power supply to the building. The Satcon inverter kept shutting off because the quality of the electricity to the building from PSE&G was so poor. TE diagnosed the problem and the utility fixed the fault, subsequently Park Plaza has a much better electrical supply.
The Fat Spaniel’s integrated Satcon inverter direct internet-based monitoring system was implemented. The Fat Spaniel data acquisition illustrations show snapshots of the actual energy generation by the PV system for Park Plaza. These measurements are in compliance with the predicted analysis done by Turtle Energy and in some cases slightly exceed the target energy output range. Data monitoring results are available both on a real-time and historical basis. Measurements can be viewed on daily, weekly, monthly, yearly or lifetime intervals. The installed PV system has successfully helped reduce the on-grid energy usage and lower cost for Park Plaza.
